What is a DTV Converter Box?
A digital-to-analog (DTV) converter box is a set-top unit used to convert older analog television sets to view digital television signals.
How do I know if I have an older analog TV set that needs a converter box?
You can check with an easy search on Google to find out if your TV set can receive over-the-air digital broadcast signals without a converter box. Type in the make and model number.
Or consult your owners manual and look for whether your TV has an (ATSC) digital tuner or (NTSC) analog tuner. If you have an (NTSC) analog tuner, you will need a digital-to-analog converter box.
If your television set says “HD Ready”, it most likely does not have a digital tuner and will need a converter box.
